The Okavango Delta is a very large inland delta formed where the Okavango River meets a basin in the Kalahari desert. The northern floodwaters that reach the Delta each May ultimately evaporate or are absorbed into the sandy soil by August. This photo taken form a helicopter illustrates how the landscape explodes with green each spring as the “surge” reaches the parched desert.
